Granite is one of the most popular natural stone countertop material among Minnesota residents.
What is granite and how is it formed:
Granite is a light-colored heated rock with large grains, and is formed by the natural processes. Think of a chamber of magma deep in the earth. Inside that chamber you have a watery melt of elements that makes up the magma. It is sealed which keeps in the liquid, pressure and heat. As the chamber of magma slowly begins to cool, the various elements moving in the melt start to bond together and the granite is formed. It is the interlocking crystals that fuse together in any arrangement that gives the clue of the formation of rock from the molten material. Since we are talking about a granite, the melt will be rich in silica, potassium, sodium and a host of other elements in smaller amounts.
Where Granite is used:
Because of its characteristics granite has been one of the most popular building materials for centuries. It can both be used in interior and exterior applications. Polished granite slabs and tiles are used in countertops, tile floors, stair treads and many other design elements. Granite is a prestige material, used in projects to produce impressions of elegance and quality. Granite is often seen as a luxury item in upper scale homes and businesses. The increased demand for granite countertops has inspired a large number of kitchen contractors to acquire the expertise and equipment to install them. As a result they can usually be ordered from and installed by a local dealer instead of a company located hundreds of miles away. For this product, increased demand has actually reduced the installed price to a level that is within reach of the average homeowner.
One of the most popular uses for granite in United States is granite countertops. A granite countertop is both beautiful and durable and can greatly enhance your kitchen, bath, or other countertops. It can also be used for fireplaces, bathtubs, and so much more.
Timeless, durable, natural and unique with no two pieces looking the same, granite is resistant to scratches, stains and heat.
